For a family of seven — parents and five school-aged children — the challenge was clear: create a home that can flex, evolve, and still feel restful amid the rhythm of daily life. The result is an apartment that celebrates what interior design in Singapore does best: transforming compact urban living into artful, efficient comfort.

A Living Room That’s Not Quite a Living Room

In most homes, the living room is a place to unwind. Here, it’s a place to come together.
The traditional sofa-centric layout was reimagined into a spacious dining area that moonlights as a study hall, gathering zone, and even a tuition space. It’s where meals, music, and moments overlap — the true heart of the home.

They wanted a space that could accommodate the family’s lively routines. A modular sofa still anchors the area, transforming into a reclining lounge for family movie nights, while smart mood lighting allows the ambience to shift from focused to cozy with a tap.

The Kitchen That Bakes, Bonds, and Belongs

The kitchen at The Minton is more than a culinary zone — it’s a love language.

Designed around the client’s passion for baking, the central island is both a prep station and social hub. It even conceals a custom mechanism to hold an 11-kilogram cake mixer, ready to swing out when inspiration (or sweet cravings) strike.

Practicality meets beauty in the L-shaped sliding glass doors, which can partition the kitchen from the dining area during heavier cooking sessions. It’s a clever detail that speaks volumes about thoughtful interior design in Singapore: adaptable, functional, and visually seamless.

A Master Suite That Breathes Calm

The master bedroom and bath were completely reconfigured to create a sense of openness and flow. Instead of a compartmentalized layout, AR-kee designed an open bathroom concept where the wardrobe links fluidly with the bedroom.

The design encloses the WC and shower in separate cubicles, creating a layout that enhances both privacy and spaciousness. Finishes like light wood, soft lighting, and subtle marble lend the space a spa-like serenity. It’s a modern sanctuary where form follows feeling.

Growing Up in Good Design

Designing for five children demanded not just aesthetic consideration, but empathy. The kids’ bathroom is cleverly designed with an invisible mirrored door and a layout that lets two children use it simultaneously — one brushing teeth, the other showering — streamlining the family’s busy school mornings.

In the bedrooms, AR-kee introduced a ceiling light spine — a minimalist feature that houses both fan and lighting elements without the need for bulky false ceilings. It saves cost, maximizes height, and keeps dust at bay — proof that thoughtful design is as much about comfort as it is about cleanliness.

Master Bedroom: Calm, Warm, and Wonderfully Simple

Designed as a serene escape, the master bedroom at The Minton embraces soft light, clean lines, and warm wood tones. Built-in cabinetry keeps the space clutter-free, while a cozy bay-window nook doubles as a work-from-home corner. Subtle rattan panels filter daylight beautifully, adding texture to the Scandinavian-Japandi palette.
