Industrial Interior Design for A Boutique Co-Working Space

The Experience Exchange is a boutique co-working lounge designed for seasoned professionals seeking more than a conventional workplace. Conceived as a refined environment where work, wellness, and community intersect, the space moves away from the typical office model and towards something more considered — a place that supports focus, connection, and restoration in equal measure.

At AR-kee Design Studio, we approach co-working space interior design with the belief that spaces are best shaped by experience. Each project begins with an understanding of how people work, move, and interact, allowing the interior to unfold with clarity and purpose rather than relying on overt styling.

Design Direction

The design adopts a semi-formal, living-room-inspired concept that balances industrial and masculine elements. Textured walls, exposed ceilings, warm timber flooring, and dark wood and leather furnishings create a grounded, confident atmosphere.

Soft lighting and greenery introduce warmth and ease, giving the space a composed yet inviting feel.

Textured walls, velvety curtains, and thick rugs soften sound and enhance acoustic comfort throughout the lounge.

Instead of dividing the interior into rigid functions, the design arranges the layout as a sequence of interconnected zones. This approach allows the space to adapt naturally to focused work, private meetings, informal conversations, wellness sessions, and small gatherings.

Arrival and First Impressions

The shopfront sets a calm and understated tone. Residential in scale and restrained in expression, the shopfront feels exclusive yet warm, private yet welcoming.

Finished in corporate green with brass signage and fluted glass doors, it balances refinement, privacy, and approachability.

Upon entry, the reception continues this sense of ease. Timber finishes, layered lighting, and accents create a hospitality-led arrival experience, shifting the perception from workplace to lounge. The reception is designed not as a transactional counter, but as an introduction to the character of the space beyond.

The Lounge: A Shared Living Room

The lounge forms the social heart of The Experience Exchange. Designed as a shared living room, it supports informal work, conversation, and moments of pause throughout the day. Leather seating, shelving, soft partitions, and textured finishes create intimacy while maintaining openness, encouraging organic interaction among members.

Each living-room-style lounge is designed to be flexible, allowing loose furniture to be rearranged and acoustic curtains to be drawn for added privacy, depending on the needs of the user.

Here, flexibility is key. The space accommodates both individual work and community use, reinforcing the idea that productivity and connection can coexist within the same environment.

Artworks are curated and lined throughout the walls and shared spaces, reinforcing a gallery-like quality and adding visual depth to the lounge experience.

Spaces for Focus and Conversation

The design supports clarity and concentration within the meeting rooms and call booths. The Airwell Meeting Space draws in natural light, creating a calm backdrop for collaboration and discussion. Warm finishes soften the industrial framework, balancing focus with comfort.

Call booths provide acoustic privacy for one-on-one conversations, compact yet thoughtfully detailed to avoid a sense of enclosure. These quieter zones allow users to move seamlessly between engagement and retreat as needed.

Wellness as Part of the Workplace

Wellness is integrated as an essential component of the spatial narrative. The Pilates room introduces a dedicated environment for movement and restoration, characterised by clean lines, timber flooring, and balanced lighting. Its placement within the co-working lounge reinforces the idea that wellbeing is not separate from work, but part of a holistic daily rhythm.

Supporting spaces, including coach rooms and the mezzanine level, offer quieter, more contemplative settings. These areas are designed for mentoring, reflection, and extended focus, providing moments of calm within the broader communal environment.

Supporting Spaces and Continuity

The design treats even utilitarian spaces with care. Patterned flooring, textured walls, and controlled lighting give the washrooms a consistent design language.

The layout discreetly integrates the copier room, softening it to preserve the overall ambience.

A fully equipped pantry with full-fledged kitchen appliances and self-service refreshments supports both daily use and hosting needs, making it ideal for events, private gatherings, and community sessions. The mezzanine level extends the experience upward, offering a more secluded working environment while maintaining visual connection to the spaces below. Long communal tables and softer lighting create an atmosphere suited for deep work and quieter engagement.

The Experience Exchange reflects a contemporary approach to co-working space interior design — one that prioritises experience, adaptability, and human comfort. Through a cohesive material palette, flexible planning, and careful attention to scale and atmosphere, the space supports a range of professional and personal needs without feeling prescriptive.

By allowing the interior to unfold with intention and restraint, the project becomes more than a workplace. The environment invites people to live in it, shaping itself through use, evolving with its community, and grounding daily experiences.
